Opportunities for local charities

Camden Recycling Rewards launched in Autumn 2016 to reward residents of the London Borough of Camden for their recycling efforts. When residents recycle more they earn Green Points for their community, with 5 communities across Camden competing to earn the most Green Points.

As part of the scheme we will be giving £5,000 to local charity and community projects every six months. The communities with the most Green Points after six months will win the biggest donations. Residents can vote at any time for the charity or community project they would like to support.

In the first year of the scheme, Camden Recycling Rewards is supporting:

  • Clean Break
  • Sante Refugee Mental Health Access Project
  • Calthorpe Project Community Garden
  • Home Start
  • Holborn Community Association

Charities in Camden were invited to complete a short application form, with applications put before a Community Leaders Panel for a final decision. The panel was formed of:

  • Councillor Merik Apak, Cabinet Member for Sustainability and Environment (CHAIR)
  • Kevin Nunan, Office and Projects Manager at Voluntary Action Camden
  • Clive West, Senior Environment Services Project Officer, Camden Council
  • Richard Bradbury, Head of Environmental Services, Camden Council
  • Ann Baker, Principal Environmental Services Officer

Nominations for Year 2

For the second year of the scheme we are asking our members to nominate their favourite good causes, with the most popular projects chosen to appear on the website.

Only nominations from registered member of Camden Recycling Rewards will count, so if you'd like to feature, encourage your supporters to join the scheme at camden.gov.uk/recyclingrewards and head to the nomination form.

There are a few criteria that projects need to meet in order to be a part of the scheme:

  • Your project provides either tangible social/and or environmental benefits for people within the London Borough of Camden.
  • Applications for grants will be considered only from properly formed groups, within the area, that have structure, constitution and/or rules or who can demonstrate they are working towards this status.
  • You must have a bank account in the name of your organisation, and the account must have at least two signatures on it, elected from the Management Committee.

If that sounds like your project, then get your supporters involved and get those nominations in!
